Winter Film Series at SAC

Cure Those Winter Blahs with a Classic Film!
Each Sunday during the month of February the Shiawassee Arts Center will be hosting a classic double feature movie starting at 1:10pm. Each film will last approximately two hours. Popcorn, coffee and tea will be available. These offerings are free, however, donations are welcome.
  • February 2 - Comedies Some Like It Hot and Tootsie
  • February 9 - Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes
  • February 16 - Dramas To Kill A Mockingbird and Sunset Boulevard

2014 Opening Exhibition at SAC




2014 Opening Exhibition at SAC
The first exhibition of 2014 for the Shiawassee Arts Center in Owosso, January 14 - February 23, features the work of three artists, Mary E. Andersen of Grand Rapids, Bob Crawford of Williamston and James Eaton of Owosso. The public reception to meet the artists with music and refreshments is Sunday, January 19, 2-4pm. The show is sponsored by Cadwallader-Lord-Hahn Insurance, Linda & Bill Hill and Getzen & Connell, CPAs.

Children's Holiday at the Shiawassee Arts Center

Children's Holiday at the Center
Children, pre-school through elementary age, and their parents are invited to a free holiday event at the Shiawassee Arts Center, Sunday, December 8, 2-4pm. There are many activities planned including make and take holiday projects plus face painting by Susan Newcom and Shance Sovis. Refreshments will be offered along with a Jingle Jam by Olivia Arend and Zach Rowden on the piano, Ben Wallace playing viola and William Wallace playing violin. Santa will make a visit from 2:30-3:30pm and the Children's Gingerbread House creations from the Saturday SAC Art Classes will be on display. This children's event is sponsored by Dr. & Mrs. Edgar Brown. Also, there will be additional activities going on within Curwood Castle Park during the afternoon. Curwood Castle, Comstock Cabin and the Woodard Paymaster Building will be decorated for the holidays.

The Arts Center, located next to Curwood Castle, is celebrating the 25th Annual Holiday at the Center, which is sponsored by Memorial Healthcare. Over 70 artists are displaying and selling their original artwork creative gift items and holiday decorations through December 29. There are affordable and unique gift items in SAC's Gift Shop and a silent auction of over two dozen items. The public is welcome and there is no admission charge. SAC is open through the holidays Tuesday through Sunday, noon - 5pm. The Shiawassee Arts Council, celebrating its 41st anniversary in 2013, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage participation and appreciation of the arts. Bicycle Photo Scavenger Hunt & Picnic


The public is invited to the Shiawassee Arts Center's first Bicycle Photo Scavenger Hunt & Picnic on Sunday, September 29. It's bound to be a super fun, challenging and yet also family-friendly event! Bring your bike, camera, your family and friends and test your knowledge of Owosso. We will give you a map and clues when you register between 1:00 and 1:30pm. You may race or meander at your own pace within a 4-mile radius searching for items. Family distance will be within a 1.5 mile radius. Expect to ride 1-2 hours depending on the length of your "hunt", your street smarts, speed and determination. 

Return to the Arts Center for some good ol' celebrating from 2-4pm for a picnic lunch with root beer floats, some sweet raffle prizes, yummy silent auction items including a Nirve Coca-Cola Bicycle from the House of Wheels (which will also be displaying some of their antique bikes), a 50/50 drawing and even some fun games. Prizes will be awarded and all participants will receive a free gift. Festivities will go on rain or shine. Join us for the Bike Hunt and Picnic at $25/person --- children 6-12 $12.50 and 5 and under free and must be accompanied by an adult OR join us for the Picnic only 2-4pm at $15/person --- children 6-12 $7.50 and 5 and under free.

The Arts Center features the artwork of local and statewide artists in eight galleries including the Frieseke Gallery and a specialty Gift Shop. 2013 SARA Swap - August 24, 2013

An ARRL Affiliated Event


SARA SWAP is on Saturday, August 24 2013 AT A NEW LOCATION! Time for vendor setup is 6:30 AM for inside SETUP, SALES are 8:00 AM to noon for all. This is an ARRL affiliated event.

SWAP will be at the Auto Diesel Institute at 1400 South M-52, Owosso, MI 48867. There are limited inside tables. This is across the street from the previous location at the 'Welcome Center'.

Pricing for the 2013 event is $3 person for admission, an outside parking spot for selling is $3 and a 6' or 8' table, inside is $5 (limited availablity). SARA runs a small concession with coffee, water, sweet rolls inside the building. You can see that this meets the 'low cost' we are trying to achieve at this SWAP, so come and enjoy.

HINT: Outside they seem to 'jump the gun' and start selling when they are set up - just saying.

HINT 2: Bring a couple of friends for a good social time and enjoy the Owosso area during the afternoon.
